Did you know that The Statue of Liberty was officially titled Liberty Enlightening the World by the French? The statue was a gift presented to the United State by the French in 1886 to help celebrate the centennial. The statue stands on Liberty Island in the Harbor of New York City that was originally designed to welcome all visitors, immigrants, and all returning Americans traveling via ship.

The statue is made from copper clad and is hung on a framework of steel. The torch is coated with gold leaf but later altered to hold glass panes. The statue was dedicated to the United States on October 28, 1886 to commemorate the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Here are some very interesting facts, Lady Liberty stands 151 ft tall but when adding the pedestal she stands on it makes here a total of 305 ft.
